A pregnant Beaumont woman and her 1-year-old son shot in a westside home Thursday may have been “caught in the crossfire” of criminal activity between the child’s father and the suspects.
The child was airlifted to Houston and the mother was hospitalized locally, police said. Authorities did not release names of either victim or the baby the woman was carrying, but last said the mother and toddler were in stable condition.
Narcotics officers from the Beaumont Police Department were among those who spent much of the afternoon scouring the home in the 8700 block of Newfield Lane. They removed several items, including an assault-style rifle, and spoke with neighbors.
Two suspects have been identified, police spokeswoman Officer Haley Morrow said at the scene.
“We have not made any arrests at this time,” Morrow said. “We do know, however, that there was evidence inside the home of ongoing criminal activity.”
